WENDY BUILDS A SHOW
Byline: Karen Parr
NEW YORK — Wendy Mullin’s latest show for her streetwear line, Built By Wendy, was a do-it-yourself affair.
It drew about 150 people to the Westbeth Theater here — a cut above the East Village bar where one of her prior shows was held — and Mullin’s friends did the makeup and modeled.
The Oct. 14 show was a spring mix of corduroy, cotton twill, dark denim and gingham, in sherbert tones of sage green, lavender, baby blue and pale orange. Clam-diggers, halters, knee-length skirts and puffed-sleeve dresses were among the simple but strong silhouettes.
“She wants her clothes to be represented as real clothes for real girls,” said sales representative Wini Rudkins. “So the people she used were magazine editors, artists and East Village girls.”
