DANES DRAFTS STEPHEN: Looking to expand its designer ready-to-wear business, Robert Danes has named Laura Stephen to the new position of director of wholesale and retail development.
Stephen most recently was a women’s rtw buyer for the Prada U.S. boutiques. Prior to that, she was manager of wholesale rtw for Chanel Inc.
Stephen reports to Rachel Danes, president and director of marketing.
She will be based at the firm’s salon at 476 Broome Street in New York.
SILVERMAN MOVES UP: Melanie Silverman has been promoted to executive vice president of Couture Fashions Inc., which makes the Rose Taft Couture and RT Boutique eveningwear and after-five collections.
Silverman, who was national sales manager, succeeds her uncle, Alan Taft, who has left the company to pursue opportunities outside the apparel industry.
Silverman, who has been with the firm for eight years, reports to her mother, Marcia Taft, chief executive officer and president. Silverman is the granddaughter of company founder Rose Taft.
POST SCRIPT: Patrick Jones, a 28-year-old native of Trinidad and Tobago, has left Kenar Enterprises to start a dress and separates company, P.S.
Jones, a sample room manager at Kenar for six years, has created a capsule holiday and early spring collection of contemporary dresses in polyester rayon chenille and stretch denim, with matching separates that wholesale up to $90.
Antique Boutique has placed an October delivery order for P.S. dresses.
Scott Soloway, a business partner in P.S., added that the line could fetch $25,000 to $30,000 at wholesale in its first year.
