DJIA DECLINES 119 POINTS

NEW YORK — Including the 5 3/16 point drop in the stock of Sears Roebuck & Co., the Dow Jones Industrials plunged 119 points Thursday to 7938.88. Stocks of other retailers and of apparel manufacturers also had a bad day.
Sears drop to 48 1/16 followed its announcement that fourth-quarter earnings are unlikely meet its targets. (A story on Sears’ comments starts on page 1.) Other retailers that suffered point-plus losses were Dillard’s, 1 1/8 to 38 7/8; May Department Stores, 1 3/8 to 53 3/8, and Mercantile Stores, 1 1/16 to 62 7/8. About the only gainers on the retail list were Saks Holdings, which managed a 1/16 gain to 23 13/16, and Talbots, 3/16 to 26 15/16.
