For several years, the Apparel Industry Board (AIBI) had sponsored a rotating cast of Chicago designers in a market showroom, giving them a start in the wholesale world. Each designer’s stint lasted from one to three markets.
But that program was suspended this year and in its place, AIBI, taking the long view, is looking for five budding designers to sponsor for an entire year.
Tentatively called the Chicago Design Group, the designers will receive mentoring support, help with manufacturing and patternmaking and the opportunity to show their lines for five markets in 1998, beginning in January. To qualify, designers must have been in business one year. For information contact AIBI at 312-836-1041.
