LOS ANGELES — Poleci has been named California Designer of the Year and Eduardo Lucero has taken the California Rising Star award.
The award winners, selected by a group of 50 fashion editors, buying offices and retailers, were revealed at the black-tie gala Sunday night wrapping up the California Collections Preview Spring ’98.
Max Azria, president and designer of BCBG Max Azria, was the previously announced recipient of the California Mart’s Fashion Performance Award, recognizing influence and outstanding performance in the industry.
The awards gala, which was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, was produced by the Mart and sponsored by the MGM Worldwide Television Group.
Lucero, known for slinky, sexy collections, showed racy leather looks for spring, including a black leather slipdress.
Poleci designers Janice Levin-Krok and Tom K. Nguyen turn out collections that are current but shy away from anything too trendy. For spring, they focused on clean white dressing in everything from slim knee-length skirts to hooded jackets and slim pants.
