NEW YORK — The city of Greensboro, N.C., will soon have a new nickname: Jeansboro, U.S.A.
On Monday, by mayoral declaration, the city will be renamed Jeansboro for one day in honor of the third-annual Blue Jeans for Babies Classic, a Jeanswear Communications fund-raiser that benefits the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation.
The event will feature appearances by NBC sportscaster Greg Gumbel and March of Dimes national ambassador Cody Dillon Grace. It is expected to raise between $75,000 and $100,000 and brings together all levels of the denim/jeans industry.
The Blue Jeans for Babies campaign has raised close to $5 million for the Birth Defects Foundation through its week-long program in mid-October, during which employees can wear jeans to work by purchasing a Blue Jeans for Babies sticker or button.
