NEW YORK — Emporio Armani reopens its Madison Avenue flagship today after an expansion that nearly doubled its size to 30,000 square feet, making it the company’s largest unit in the world.
The store, which opened last September with 16,000 square feet, occupied the basement through third floors of 601 Madison Avenue.
The company added floors four through six to accommodate the growing collection, which includes jeans, sportswear, eveningwear, eyewear, accessories and shoes.
At the time of the opening, sources close to the company projected the Emporio store would do $15 million in sales. An Armani spokeswoman on Thursday said the store actually exceeded that amount. With the expansion, the company is projecting sales in excess of $23 million for the first year.
The first floor remains unchanged with accessories and gifts, small leather goods and intimate apparel. The second and third floors, which had been a mix of men’s and women’s apparel, are now dedicated to women’s. Four and five are devoted to men’s wear.
The Armani jeans collection moved from the basement to the sixth floor, where a bar, cafe and terrace are located. An Armani Cafe now fills the entire basement.
