DIVINE EXCESS: John Galliano is mad for accessories. And in his Dior collection, Galliano’s fantasy evening dresses made the perfect backdrop for over-the-top, irresistibly feminine ones. His spring couture collection featured drop earrings and bib necklaces that stretched from the top of the neck to the cleavage. They reappeared in this collection, now in jet, garnet, lace, topaz, lapis lazuli and peridot; some seemed to have come straight from the days of the Raj. Strands of pearls, too, dripped to the knees.
The ornamentation continued from head to toe. Flower and feather ornaments were tucked into lace veils, feather scarves or tousled curls, while powder-puff feather pouches dangled at the end of strands of pearls. And how about those stilettos attached to black lace thigh-highs? There were high-heeled satin mules in sherbet and pastel colors, too, some with a pleated fan at the instep or pearl details.
