NEW YORK — Jacques Haran, a retired president of Revillon USA, died of heart failure here Sunday, said a spokeswoman for Revillon Inc., a fur manufacturer and retailer based in Paris. He was 81.
Haran began his career in 1934, when, at 17, he went to work at Revillon’s London boutique, where his mother modeled for the company. His father was director of manufacturing there.
Haran moved here in 1948 to run Revillon’s 57th Street boutique. As president of Revillon USA in the Fifties and Sixties, he worked with Fernando Sanchez, Revillon’s in-house designer, Hubert de Givenchy, and Bill Blass, who had licensed collections with the furrier.
Haran, who had homes here and in Paris, retired in 1980.
There are no immediate survivors. A funeral mass is scheduled for today at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Pompeii Church at Carmine and Bleeker Streets here.
