THE CHRISTIAN FAITHFUL
By wearing one of John Galliano’s inaugural gowns for Christian Dior couture to the Oscars, Nicole Kidman gave the designer a PR gift that no amount of francs could buy. So it’s no wonder she was seated at his right hand Tuesday, at the opening night dinner for Dior’s flagship boutique on the Avenue Montaigne. And once again dressed in a knockout Dior, Kidman showed she’s one woman who can live the Galliano fairy tale.
But it wasn’t all about Nicole. Demi Moore was seated with hostess Helene Arnault, but was sure to get in her time with the designer over coffee. Bernard Arnault had French First Lady Bernadette Chirac — who earlier officiated over the ribbon-cutting — at his table. And a gaggle of les supers, including Kate, Naomi and Linda, lit up the boutique.
Architect Peter Marino spent the evening either posing for pictures or accepting compliments on his spare-no-expense showplace.
But Galliano, sporting a Salvador Dali-like moustache, was clearly the man of the hour; dozens of ladies were wearing his current designs, and guests couldn’t stop raving about the Dior collection he’d shown earlier in the day.
“It’s wonderful to see the house of Dior so alive,” said Galliano before he and his entourage headed off to Le Cabaret for a little dancing. “Mr. Dior would approve.”
