NEW YORK — A “Focus on Fit” in more than 2,000 retail doors in the U.S. and Canada is expected to be a highlight of Lingerie Week, April 21-27.
The Intimate Apparel Council, a division of the American Apparel Manufacturers Association, and DuPont Lycra are sponsors of the nationwide lingerie promotion.
An IAC spokeswoman said several Manhattan stores will participate in the seventh annual edition, including Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s East and Saks Fifth Avenue. Other major retailers taking part in Lingerie Week are Neiman Marcus, Dayton Hudson, Macy’s West, Gottschalk’s, Bon Marche, Nordstrom, Parisian’s and Stern’s.
Sears, Roebuck and J.C. Penney also will participate in select markets, the spokeswoman said, and Holt Renfrew stores in Canada will join in for the first time.
“Hundreds of trained fit specialists, many armed with IAC/DuPont fit kits, will be on hand throughout the week to educate women about proper [bra] fit,” said the spokeswoman. The kits will include tape measures and pins shaped like a bustier.
Also headlining the national promotion will be a bevy of in-store, multivendor events, including raffles, gifts-with-purchase, designer appearances, informal modeling and fashion shows.
A party is scheduled April 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Puck Building here. Tickets are $100 per person. The party will feature an auction of 10 designer bustiers, and an exhibition of women artists’ works that can be purchased by private bid.
The second annual “Spirit of a Woman” awards also will be presented. Those who will be honored include Nancy Ganz, president and owner of Bodyslimmers Inc.; Wilhelmina Cole Holladay, founder of the women’s art museum, and Faith Ringgold, an artist. A fourth honoree will be named shortly.
