INTIMATE NOTES
MACY’S DOES SPEEDO: Macy’s will be staging a high-velocity presentation of sports bras at its New York flagship Feb. 5 with a dance segment showcasing the Speedo brand.
The event, which is scheduled at 12:30 in the third-floor innerwear department, will feature Speedo sports bras aworn by the New York City Knicks Dancers.
“This is a big deal for us,” said a spokesman for Macy’s. “The Speedo name has a high awareness with shoppers.”
REEBOK GETS INTIMATE: Gruppo Intermoda Ltd., a sales representative and importer of European foundations, sleepwear and daywear in New York, will present its first fashion show Feb. 4 at the Reebok Sports Club/NY.
The lingerie fashion show and dinner will be staged at 6 p.m. at the club’s Grill. The show is aimed at members of the sports club and their guests. The cost per person is $38.
Fran Nassberg, owner and president of Gruppo, will speak before the show about “how and why European lingerie is becoming the American woman’s new obsession.”
Nassberg noted her presentation will include “explanations on the differences between French and Italian fits, on why our collections are distinctive…and on how European innerwear can be worn as outerwear.”
The European lines of innerwear Gruppo represents in the U.S. include Ravage, Ritratti, Imec, Etincelle, Lisanza and the licensed Nina Ricci collection of foundations.
Danett Botkin, a sales associate at Gruppo, noted, “It’s a way for the company to get the names of its collections out there. A lot of the women who work out at the club are very conscious of their looks, and many wear beautiful bras and thongs.”
Items will not be sold at the show, but a sales associate will be on hand to tell potential purchasers where they can buy the items.
Shari Miller, activities director at the Reebok club, said, “We expect between 80 to 100 people at the show. The members I’ve talked to are really excited about it.”
