FINDINGS

LEIBERS’ SCHOLARSHIP: Judith Leiber and her husband, Gerson, have donated $100,000 to establish a scholarship fund for students majoring in accessories design at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology.
The two-year Accessories Design program was established in 1982 and is the only one of its kind in the U.S. The curriculum includes an internship and courses in human anatomy, design, sketching, construction and pattern making.
“It’s so important to continue to develop talent in this business,” said Judith Leiber. “I’ve been very lucky in the U.S., both at the retail level and with consumers, and I felt it was important to pave the way for future designers.”
An FIT spokesman said he expects the first scholarship will be awarded for the fall 1996 term.

UNDERWOOD’S NEW DIGS: After a few stops and starts, hat designer Patricia Underwood has finally moved to new quarters.
Held up for months by the recent strike by building maintenance workers, Underwood has settled into 3,000 square feet on the 24th floor of 498 Seventh Ave. that’s a combination production space and showroom. Although slightly smaller that her previous space at 242 West 36th St., the new venue has 25-foot ceilings — it once was home to a gym and squash courts — that have given the company much needed storage and office space.

TAG TIME FOR REFFSIN: Fred Reffsin has been promoted to the new post of president of Heuer Time & Electronics, TAG Heuer’s U.S. subsidiary. He joined the firm in 1993 as executive vice president and general manager. He continues to oversee sales and marketing in the U.S.

CAPEZIO’S NEW CAST: Alicia Stern has been named president of Capezio Handbags, a division of handbag firm Holiday Fair Inc. Stern was vice president of sales for the handbag and small leather goods division of Liz Claiborne Accessories.
Stern succeeds Steven Hedaya, who left to start his own handbag company, Mondani Handbags.
Several new posts have also been created at Capezio as part of the firm’s expansion plan.
Audrey Weiss has been named to the new post of vice president of product development. She was a merchandiser and stylist for Federated Department Stores’ product development division. Mona Hirson has been appointed vice president of sales and marketing. Hirson was vice president of sales for designer handbag firm Carlos Falchi. Donna Sintic, who was vice president of merchandising for Anne Klein Accessories, has been named vice president of merchandising, planning and production.
Capezio is also in the process of developing a new advertising campaign, which will break later this year. The new ads will feature Paulina Porizkova. Linda Evangelista had been the “Capezio Girl” for the last two years.
