Hollywood’s gearing up for one of its bigger fashion shows, The Golden Globes, on Sunday night, and the arrival runway at the Beverly Hilton will be heavily Armani, as usual. Annette Bening will wear a navy silk sleeveless Armani gown; Ellen DeGeneres, a black crepe tuxedo; Sally Field, a red organza sleeveless gown; Emma Thompson’s being fitted in London, and Melanie Griffith, Mira Sorvino and Alicia Silverstone are all still choosing just which Armanis to don. Meanwhile, Sean Connery, Ed Harris, Mel Gibson, Steve Martin, John Leguizamo and Jonathan Silverman will all appear in Armani tuxes. Calvin Klein will also have a heavy presence, with Sandra Bullock, who’ll be in a black hammered-satin dress; Elisabeth Shue, in a yellow matte jersey gown; Helen Hunt, in Calvin’s silver lace tank dress; Patricia Arquette, in a long white duchess satin daisy sequin dress; Gwyneth Paltrow, in a black and white cross-back jersey gown, and Jennifer Aniston, in a nude-colored jersey evening dress.
Sao Schlumberger didn’t even make it out of the airport on her trip to Saint Petersburg, Russia, last week. “After checking in my luggage at Charles de Gaulle Airport, my handbag containing all my documents and money was stolen,” Schlumberger lamented. So, once in Russia, she turned around and flew home. According to police, Schlumberger, who was traveling with YSL’s Helene de Ludinghausen and others from France’s fancy-set, was the fourth robbery victim in the airport that day. Also on the trip was Princess Michael of Kent, who either refused to talk to others in the group or shocked them with details of her marriage. “My husband snores like a trooper,” she informed her fellow travelers. “We haven’t shared the same bedroom for years.”
Supermodel Marcus Schenkenberg seems to be having some serious bad hair days during the Milan shows. Best known for his long, straight blond hair, the Swede has spawned so many long-haired look-alikes that to differentiate himself from the pack, he has shorn his famous locks to within an inch of his scalp. But not everyone appears to be thrilled with the new look. Gianfranco FerrA only sent him out twice, and Hugo Boss had the best idea of all: a big shearling hat.
Printemps, the Paris department store, has gone all out for its exhibition called FEte du Mariage. Princess Grace’s wedding gown has been sent from Philadelphia’s Museum of Art. The satin and lace dress, which was designed by Helen Rose in 1956, will remain in the store until Feb. 10.
Hair stylist Oribe is talking to Ian Schrager about going bicoastal and opening a salon in Schrager’s Mondrian hotel on the Sunset Strip. The hotel’s renovation is set to debut in October, and it’s looking like it will also have The Whisky bar, which will relocate from its home at the Sunset Marquis.
