NO GUTS, NO NISSAN: Champion is about to make people sweat.
Over the next four months, the company will conduct a seven-step “obstacle course” competition for the public on college campuses, beaches and still-undetermined sites in New York, Boston and Chicago.
Competitors must master challenges ranging from climbing a wall to negotiating a balance beam in what is being billed as “the Champion Guts to Glory Challenge.”
About 400,000 are expected to compete, a Champion spokesman said. The 10 women and 10 men with the fastest times for completing the course will be invited to Atlanta to compete in the finals at the Olympic Village in July. The two eventual champs — one male, one female — will each win a Nissan truck.
The event — which is open to everyone, including professional athletes — is being promoted in fliers, posters, radio spots and newspaper ads.
Champion expects to give away $1 million worth of T-shirts and sweatshirts during the event, said Charlie Scott, director of sports and a former member of the Boston Celtics.
