THE BEST STORES: PENNEY’S RATED NO. 1 IN NATIONWIDE SURVEY
NEW YORK — Consumers have spoken: J.C. Penney is the winner.
In WWD’s second national Best Stores survey, consumers rated their favorite places to shop and Penney’s beat all comers again, scoring especially high among working women and traditional households.
While arch rival Sears may be looking to steal more of Penney’s market share, Penney’s appears to be in a fighting mood, with a new prototype, improved comp-store figures — and, apparently, lots of customer loyalty.
