TYLER TAKES TWO
Forget about summer — that’s the stand many designers are taking this year, skipping the hazy days entirely and launching straight into pre-fall delivery. But Richard Tyler thinks otherwise. Although he still presented a strong pre-fall collection chock full of suits and dresses, Tyler’s summer collection was short and sweet.
“Summer has always been an important season to us. Customers are constantly asking for it, especially our businesses in Los Angeles and San Diego. They’re demanding it — something new, something fresh, where they can show their legs,” says Tyler.
“I always thought that summer should just be about T-shirts, but our customers — which is more a couture customer — want more and don’t mind paying for it. I do pre-fall because the stores ask for it and it’s a logical transition into fall,” Tyler says, “though it’s not always a true indication of fall because it is done so early.
“This pre-fall collection is very suit-driven, especially with a group of tweedy suits that I’ve never done before for pre-fall but feels right now. And we are also selling more dresses than ever.”
