TINY CORNER STORE AT MACY’S LEASED TO SUNGLASS HUT
NEW YORK — Sunglass Hut will open a 400-square-foot store right under the big Macy’s sign on Herald Square.
The prime site, on the northwest corner of Broadway and 34th Street here, for years had been occupied by Herald P Jewelers, carving out a corner of the Macy’s Herald Square flagship.
It could not be learned whether Macy’s tried to obtain the site. It’s a building separate from the Macy’s building. One source said Macy’s may not have been willing to pay the $500 a square foot in rent.
Officials from Sunglass Hut, the sunglass retailer based in Coral Gables, Fla., were not available Friday. Garrick-Aug Associates represented the landlord in the transaction.
