ST. JOHN DOUBLES UP
Byline: Kathleen Nicholson
NEW YORK — St. John must be doing something right. After only five years, its boutique at 53rd Street and Fifth Avenue has doubled its size.
During the opening party held last week, which benefited the Lenox Hill Neighborhood House Committee, an outreach house for the Lenox Hill Neighborhood, 350 members and friends of the charity sipped champagne and martinis while touring the new space. Afterward, St. John’s co-founder and chief designer Marie Gray presented a check for $5,000 to the charity on behalf of her company.
The 12,000-square-foot store houses all of St. John’s lines: St. John Collection, Couture, Sport, accessories, fake fur coats, Griffith & Gray and fragrance. The store also includes a spacious salon for the shoe collection.
While the original boutique had held all the lines as well, the company needed the extra space to accommodate its expanding arsenal, having adding three new lines in the last two years.
After the boutique tour, the party moved on to the Racquet & Tennis Club on Park Avenue for dinner and dancing, which also benefited the charity.
