SEARS NAMES CRITTENDEN EXECUTIVE VP
NEW YORK — Sears, Roebuck & Co., continuing to seek new avenues for growth, on Wednesday named Gary L. Crittenden executive vice president of strategy and business development, a new post.
Crittenden, formerly senior vice president and chief financial officer of Melville Corp., will start on Feb. 15. Prior to joining Melville in 1994, he was executive vice president and chief financial officer of Filene’s Basement. Crittenden reports to Arthur C. Martinez, chairman and chief executive officer.
The appointment reflects Sears’ efforts to realign its management structure to better oversee “off-the-mall” growth, including Sears’ hardware and furniture stores located in non-mall sites, and the ongoing overhaul of the company’s 800 department stores in malls.
Crittenden will also work on strategic alliances, joint ventures and acquisitions, a spokesman added.
