NEW YORK — It’s around the clock for Arnold Scaasi, who’s headed for Texas and California department stores this month to promote his new book, “A Cut Above” and his latest evening dress collection, Nightlife.
For holiday, Nightlife includes 16 pieces — mostly short black or red party dresses — that retail from $300 to $550. The strongest shapes here, clearly aimed at a younger Scaasi customer, are A-line dresses in black embroidered lace with long or short sleeves. Other dresses, in silk satin or rayon crepe, have plunging backs or necklines and lots of what Scaasi calls “veiled sheers” — subtly executed cutouts, sequins, slits and layers.
Next season the designer plans to expand Nightlife, with about 30 looks, both long and short.
