RYKIEL SAID TO BE MAD FOR MADISON
NEW YORK — Sonia Rykiel reportedly is negotiating a deal for a 1,500-square-foot store at 851 Madison Ave., between 70th and 71st Streets.
Simon Burstein, Rykiel’s Paris-based president, declined to comment on the report Thursday, but a real estate source said the designer has a lease on the one-level location, which is next to an Yves Saint Laurent boutique.
Italian designer Mariella Burani was in the running for the 851 Madison Ave. location, according to a source, but failed to reach an agreement. Mabel’s, a specialty store for cat aficionados, is the current tenant.
Via Spiga, a division of Intershoe, has signed a 10-year lease for 2,500 square feet at 765 Madison Ave., taking over the LS Collection home and gift store between 65th and 66th Streets. Via Spiga, an upper-end footwear line, expects to open by August.
On Fifth Avenue, A/X Armani Exchange is considering a 10,000-square-foot space on the northeast corner of 51st Street, sources said. The site was formerly a Mario Valentino. A spokeswoman for Presidio International, which has acquired the assets of A/X in the U.S., said the company has been “looking at space all over Manhattan,” but not signed any leases.
