PUGH NAMED MERCANTILE DIRECTOR
NEW YORK — Lawrence R. Pugh, chairman of VF Corp. since 1983, has been named a director of Mercantile Stores Company Inc., increasing the board to 12 members.
Pugh was ceo of VF until relinquishing the post to Mackey McDonald this month.
“Larry’s natural instincts for delivering value and service to the customer will be of great benefit to our organization,” David L. Nichols, chairman, said in a statement. “In addition, his understanding of the technological advances in providing the right products and selection to the retail store in a timely manner will be very valuable.”
Mercantile operates 103 stores in 50 markets with sales of more than $2.8 billion.
