MASK FORCE: Some 350 masks, created by fashion folk such as Donna Karan, Mary McFadden and Todd Oldham, as well as by celebrities ranging from Tina Turner to Ted Turner, will be sold at auction by Sotheby’s in two separate events.
A private charity auction will be held Nov. 28 in London, and a public auction and sale will be held at Sotheby’s New York on Dec. 8. Proceeds benefit several charities here and in the U.K. Elie Tahari is chairman of Masks ’96.
A preview cocktail party will be held at Bloomingdale’s on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. to view the masks. On Dec. 4, a gala dinner-dance masquerade ball at New York’s Plaza Hotel will kick off a week of Masks USA festivities.

NEW POLO POST: Heather Beckel has been named director of international communications at Polo Ralph Lauren, a new post. She will oversee the development and implementation of all international media and event strategies.
Beckel, who reports to Hamilton South, vice president of worldwide communications and new projects, was most recently field and operations director of the coordinated campaign of the Texas Democratic Party. Before that, she was the executive assistant in the President’s office of the White House from 1993 until 1995.
