MUSCLE AND BUSTLE: Bodyguards were the accessory of choice at the Versus show Tuesday night. Woody Allen and Soon-Yi Previn needed a few to get to their front-row seats, as did new MAC model k.d. lang. Lisa Marie Presley scooted in at the last minute, surrounded by a tough-looking crew that swept her away the second the show ended. Mike Tyson watched from the end of the runway and really didn’t need the few muscle men who escorted him backstage. Could fashion shows be the new place to rehabilitate that tarnished image?

THE CULT OF YOHJI: Donna Karan sat next to Kelly Klein. Michael Kors chatted with Gene Pressman and Tommy Tune. They, along with Alexander McQueen, Isabella Blow, Bernadette Peters and Debbie Harry are part of the Yamamoto fan club that showed up for the designer’s show at the 26th Regiment Armory on Lexington Avenue here Tuesday.
Judging by Donna’s and Kelly’s spirited conversation, Calvin Klein’s broadside at Karan and Ralph Lauren for pulling out of the tents — “Some of the designers in New York…ought to have their heads examined” (page one, Tuesday) — didn’t put a damper on their friendship. “No, there are no hard feelings,” said Karan. “I love Calvin.”
As for Yamamoto, Karan called him “a designer’s designer” and “an incredible genius with true soul.”
“The show was beautiful and arresting,” Kors concurred, “especially the dress that looked like it was going to fall right off. But I don’t know how you guys sit through a hundred of them.”

SPORTS MAN: Conde Nast has raided Harper’s Bazaar for its new women’s sports magazine. Johan Svensson, HB’s art director for four years and one of Fabien Baron’s top assistants, will join Conde Nast Sports for Women in May.

SHE’LL CRY TOMORROW: Despite reports to the contrary, John Galliano did not play Madonna’s version of “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” at his first Givenchy collection. He had the sound track of the Elaine Paige West End production. But who knows? The Madonna version may be unveiled at a fashion show — perhaps at Victor Alfaro, who is having a show on Saturday, despite the fact that the latest edition of The Fashion Calendar reports that he cancelled.
