MIRROR, MIRROR
Uma was there. So was Elle. Add Natalie Portman and Mira Sorvino and you’ve got beautiful girls — literally. They all came together last week for the New York premiere of “Beautiful Girls,” the latest in a string of film statements on the youth culture.
It’s the story of a group of small town guys (Matt Dillon, Tim Hutton and Michael Rappaport), the women they date — and the ones they wish they could date. The locals are played by Uma Thurman, Portman, Sorvino, Rosie O’Donnell and Lauren Holly.
Portman, 14, plays a bright young girl who goes gaga over Hutton. She said she thinks Hutton might have taken her on-screen persona too seriously.
“It was sort of a weird situation,” said Portman, who didn’t look 14 in her navy Prada dress at the post-premiere party at Manhattan Center. “I think he really thought that I had a crush on him. I don’t think so. He’s a little old. Really.”
Sorvino admitted that when she was growing up she had crushes on both Hutton and Dillon.
“Oh, please, you don’t need to tell these guys,” she said. “Everybody loved these guys when we were growing up. They know that.”
As for her outfit, Sorvino described it as a “Mira special.”
“The jacket was a sample, and the pants are just regular pants,” she said.
O’Donnell, on the other hand, knew exactly what she was wearing.
“It’s CP Shades. It’s good for a three-size swing,” she said. “It’s got an elastic waist.”
