MILAN — Marzotto SpA reported 1995 consolidated net profit rose 91 percent to $32.1 million (50.1 billion lire) at current exchange. Sales gained 11.6 percent to reach $1.51 billion (2.36 trillion lire). A year earlier, the firm earned 26.2 billion lire on sales of 2.1 trillion lire.
A spokesman for Valdagno-based Marzotto attributed last year’s gains to an 18.8 percent increase in exports, which make up 67 percent of group sales, and the strong performance, especially in the U.S., of Hugo Boss, the German men’s wear maker it controls. He also cited the recovery of Marzotto’s apparel operation, returning to the black after losses in 1993 and 1994. Besides its own labels, Marzotto produces labels for designers, including Gianfranco FerrA and Missoni. The yarns division fared less well, due primarily to a sluggish year for linen thread and losses in the wool yarns operation.
