HOLLYWOOD, BABBLE ON
It might have been light on A-list material, but Details magazine’s party to commemorate its “Mondo Hollywood” issue still managed to lure 1,000 revelers to the grand ballroom of the Ambassador Hotel last Friday. If some were there because Demi Moore was listed as a hostess, they must have been disappointed. Moore didn’t show and Details reps couldn’t — or wouldn’t — say why.
Meanwhile, ex-XXXer Traci Lords was pressed into service as a deejay, drawing almost as many rubberneckers as dancers. Guests like Rosanna Arquette, Chrissie Hynde, Tim Burton and Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer, two of the stars of “Friends,” were among the dancing masses.
While all that was going on, Liv Tyler stood around nervously nibbling at the neck of her turtleneck sweater.
“This is scary,” she observed. “Kato Kaelin is here. I’m outta here.”
“If this is ‘Mondo Hollywood’ then I’m just a tourist,” said Sofia Coppola, who was also a designated hostess and who was holding court at the bar in a black polyester slipdress of her own design.
In a sea of little black dresses, Arquette made the evening’s grand fashion statement. She wore a skin-tight Gaultier under “a big old rug,” as she referred to her shaggy fun fur.
