LES COPAINS HIT WITH $50,000 LOSS IN GOODS HEIST
MILAN — A thief posing as an employee of Les Copains’ Milan boutique made off with $50,000 (80 million lire) worth of merchandise after tricking a delivery man into handing him the goods, the company said.
The thief apparently intercepted the delivery truck before it reached the boutique on Via Monte Napoleone, identified himself as a Les Copains employee and asked the driver to unload the spring/summer merchandise into a “company” van.
“This was a perfectly organized scam,” said a source close to Les Copains, a high-end knitwear and ready-to-wear manufacturer based in Bologna.
“The store is half-empty and everything had to be reordered.”
