FULLER TO BECOME DEPUTY EDITOR OF COSMOPOLITAN
NEW YORK — “I’m very much a Cosmo girl,” said Bonnie Fuller, founding editor in chief of the U.S. edition of Marie Claire, who was named deputy editor of Cosmopolitan Tuesday.
“I’ve been very inspired by Cosmo — making the most of everything you’ve got, setting your sights high for everything you want to achieve,” said Fuller, who will ultimately succeed longtime editor Helen Gurley Brown.
Fuller, 39, will be deputy editor to Brown, 73, for about 18 months and then take over the editor’s chair. At that time, Brown, who has served as editor in chief since 1965, will become editor in chief of Cosmopolitan’s 27-edition worldwide publishing program.
“I’m not going in there to change it. I’m going in there to learn. It’s hugely successful and a brilliantly edited magazine,” said Fuller.
Fuller will move to Cosmopolitan as soon as a successor is named at Marie Claire, published by Hearst Magazines in partnership with France’s Marie Claire Album. Hearst also publishes Cosmopolitan.
Fuller joined Hearst in February 1994 and was previously editor of YM magazine, guiding that publication to a circulation of more than 1.8 million. Earlier she was editor of Flare, a monthly fashion and beauty magazine published in her native Canada.
