DWORKIN NAMED PRESIDENT, CEO OF UPTONS CHAIN
NEW YORK — David Dworkin, former chief executive officer of Broadway Stores, has joined Uptons Inc. as president and ceo.
He succeeds David Layne, who left the company in August.
At Uptons, a 77-unit moderate-priced apparel chain based in suburban Atlanta, Dworkin will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations.
Last January, the privately held American Retail Group, Uptons’ parent company, closed its Byrons division and converted the 37 Byrons units to Uptons.
Dworkin, who was unavailable for comment Tuesday, most recently was president and ceo of Broadway Stores, the Los Angeles-based department store chain that was teetering on the edge of bankruptcy when it was acquired by Federated Department Stores in August 1995. Dworkin exited shortly after.
