NEW YORK — Federated Department Stores will launch a home page on the World Wide Web on Friday to provide news and fashion information from the company’s divisions, including exclusive products, merchandising strategies, store locations and financial results, including 10-K filings.
It was developed by Federated’s corporate communications department and Omni-Rom Inc., both based in Cincinnati.
Also, a Macy’s WeddingLine, the first customer-oriented Web site by Federated, will go on line Friday, providing wedding planning and registry services and new information monthly.
Susan Finkelstein, vice president of special services at Macy’s West, said future technology may allow Macy’s to use live video on the WeddingLine home page, for brides-to-be to view at bridal fairs held at Macy’s.
Federated also said its divisions are recruiting employees via the Internet; Burdines has filled four key merchandising posts through ads posted on Internet newsgroups.
Working with third parties, Federated said, its Systems Group and Burdines are preparing to launch new Internet projects. The Systems Group plans a Internet e-mail project for Federated employees using Microsoft Exchange this month. Burdines will begin offering apparel and home merchandise via Time Warner’s Internet site, called Dream Shop, in early summer.
