WASHINGTON — The Federal Trade Commission said Friday it has given Liz Claiborne approval to buy Dooney & Bourke.
Liz Claiborne announced in September that it planned to acquire the better accessories manufacturer for an undisclosed sum in an effort to broaden its portfolio of brands.
The cash deal is expected to close by the end of the year. Dooney & Bourke, based in Norwalk, Conn., produces handbags, luggage, belts and small leather goods for department and speciality stores.
In giving its approval, the FTC signaled it found no anticompetitive problems with the deal.
