LOS ANGELES — Even as some of the stalwarts are departing the 7th on Sixth tents, another wave is moving in.
Parallel and Bisou Bisou, two contemporary companies based here, are planning runway shows at 7th on Sixth. Bisou Bisou will show at 3 p.m. March 29, while Parallel will show on March 31 at 2 p.m. Both are at the Josephine Pavilion in Bryant Park.
“We’re doing this because all our international business will be in New York for that period,” said Bisou Bisou chairman and chief executive officer Marc Bohbot, who founded the company 16 years ago with his designer wife, Michele Bohbot.
Bisou Bisou does about $40 million a year at wholesale.
In the U.S., Bisou Bisou is sold at Bergdorf Goodman and Bloomingdale’s, as well as in the firm’s five retail outlets in Southern California and Bal Harbor, Fla. A 500-square-foot shop will open this week at Bloomingdale’s flagship in New York.
As reported, Parallel is gearing up for a New York show as part of its move out of the contemporary market into bridge, according to Sean Barron, president.
“In order to do that, you do fashion shows. It gets attention, and it gives a lot more credibility,” Barron said.
