WASHINGTON — Calvin Klein Cosmetics Co. said Tuesday that police in Manchester, England, busted a multimillion-dollar counterfeit fragrance operation, believed to be the largest supplier of fake CK One fragrance in the United Kingdom.
In addition to CK One, the police found counterfeit bottles of Calvin Klein’s Obsession and Escape as well as brands manufactured by Estee Lauder, Chanel, Guerlain and Giorgio of Beverly Hills, according to Al Checkett, director of worldwide corporate security for Calvin Klein Cosmetics.
In the action, the Manchester police worked with investigators for Intelligence and Investigation Consultancy Limited, a private firm hired by Calvin Klein Cosmetics.
The bust, the second achieved by Klein Cosmetics in northern England since 1994, resulted in seven arrests as well as the seizure of a large quantity of counterfeit perfume, Checkett said.
Checkett said that while the value of the confiscated perfume was still undetermined, counterfeit bottles of CK One were being sold from car trunks for about 10 to 15 pounds, or about $17 to $25. Authentic bottles of CK One sell in England for about 35 pounds, or about $58.50, he said.
Checkett said the surveillance of the long-running operation, which was distributing products throughout the United Kingdom, began earlier this year and is expected to lead to more arrests.
