NEW YORK — Doris Lauter, 87, owner of the Windward Shop in Montauk, N.Y., died Dec. 21 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, where she had been a patient for the past two weeks.
The cause of death was cancer, according to Cory Held, a friend and business associate.
Lauter had been active in her business until becoming ill last summer. The Windward Shop, a women’s specialty store featuring designer and bridge lines, has been a fixture in Montauk for almost 40 years and was especially popular as a meeting place for Long Island summer residents.
Lauter is survived by her brother, Robert Lauter.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel, 1076 Madison Ave.
