MONSANTO’S FEAT: Pharr Yarns and the Monsanto Co. have added a couple of feet to downtown McAdenville, N.C.
Earlier this month on top of Pharr Yarns’ corporate headquarters, a billboard was unveiled with an image of the Manhattan skyline and two feet clad in athletic socks, simulating the World Trade Center towers, with the tag line “Acrylic Socks Rise Pharr Above the Rest.”
Pharr Yarns’ facility is located on Interstate 85, 10 miles southwest of Charlotte, N.C.
This is the first time Monsanto has done outdoor advertising. Monsanto’s Duraspun acrylic fiber logo is featured on the sign, which will be up all year.
Duraspun is among Monsanto’s Smart Yarns acrylic fibers that are spun into yarns produced by Pharr and others that knit socks.
Based in McAdenville, Pharr Yarns is one of the 12 companies affiliated with Monsanto’s marketing alliance partnership program, which was created last fall.
“Charlotte is key because that’s the home base for many sock knitters,” said a spokeswoman for Monsanto. “It’s a regional hub, which made a whole lot of sense for Monsanto.”
