A BIG HELLO IN LONDON
“It’s just the way I think England should look,” Ralph Lauren said of the Royal Academy of London’s Winter Party, which his company sponsored.
The designer turned the museum’s courtyard into a Christmas wonderland, with a 20-foot tree, blazing torches and antique cars. It was Lauren’s first public appearance in London in 15 years and he greeted everyone from actress Patsy Kensit to Lady Helen Taylor and Viscount and Viscountess Linley. The reception surprised him. “I kept turning around to see who they were photographing,” he said. Linley, meanwhile, felt out of place with the party’s glamorous theme — especially since he lost a button to his Richard James suit jacket. “It’s a rather unglamorous start to an evening, isn’t it?” he said, holding his finger over the offending hole.
