WYOMISSING, Pa. — VF Corp. will centralize its professional sports licensed businesses, consolidating its Cutler Sports Apparel, a division of H. Cutler, of Grand Rapids, Mich., with Nutmeg Mills in Tampa, Fla.
The company said that while in time it expects the move to provide substantial cost savings, the prime motive is to create a larger, more focused licensed sports group. It will also allow H.H. Cutler to focus on its core children’s apparel business.
The Cutler Sports Apparel facilities in Grand Rapids will be closed.
The company expects the closure of the Michigan facilities to be phased in over the next six months to insure minimum business interruption. Some Cutler Sports Apparel employees will be offered the opportunity to relocate to Tampa.
The company said it will maintain separate marketing, sales and merchandising organizations for specific distribution channels. However, it will consolidate the screenprinting and embroidery, distribution and customer service areas for greater efficiency.
Both Nutmeg and Cutler Sports Apparel manufacture and market T-shirts, fleece and other apparel decorated with the names and logos of professional sports teams.
