KENNETH COLE LICENSES G-III FOR LEATHER, CLOTH OUTERWEAR
NEW YORK — G-III Apparel Group and Kenneth Cole Productions are teaming up for a new collection of leather and cloth outerwear.
The licensing deal, announced Monday, calls for G-III to produce and market three labels bearing the Kenneth Cole name: Collection, New York and Reaction. The lines will bow in late February and will hit stores next fall.
The Collection line will wholesale for $150 to $450, New York for $75 to $250 and Reaction for $49 to $149. They will be sold at the G-III facilities at 512 Seventh Ave.
The product lines will include fabric outerwear in high-tech nylons, rubberized fabrics and moss microfiber. The jackets and coats will feature details including pulls, reflective taping and holographic logos. A combination of leather and nylon will be offered in the New York label.
Morris Goldfarb, president and chief executive officer of G-III, said, “We believe [our] manufacturing expertise and existing infrastructure, coupled with the strong customer recognition of the Kenneth Cole brand, will make an appealing combination.”
Supported by its core footwear, handbag and small leather goods lines, Kenneth Cole also has licensed lines of belts, hosiery, luggage and eyewear. The company made a stab at the outerwear market a couple of years ago through a license with Campaign Success here, but it was discontinued in 1993.
G-III, which had a volume of $209 million last year, makes diversified outerwear and sportswear under its signature label and Siena and JL Colebrook tags. Last week it signed an agreement to distribute a line of European outerwear called Polar Bear.
