FEDERATED SET TO ENLARGE LOGISTICS UNIT
NEW YORK — Federated Department Stores Inc. will expand its Federated Logistics operation to all divisions beginning Jan. 1, the company said Tuesday.
Federated Logistics, which was set up in 1993, coordinates merchandise distribution, logistics functions and vendor technology for Macy’s East, Bloomingdale’s and Stern’s. Next year, it will handle distribution for Macy’s West, The Bon Marche, Burdines and Rich’s/Lazarus/Goldsmith’s.
Tom Cole continues as president of the logistics unit, which will oversee 21 distribution centers in seven states next year. Federated said the move involves no facility closings or layoffs and affects only the overall reporting structure of existing distribution center operations.
Additionally, Bruce Berman, formerly senior vice president of operations at Macy’s West, has been named senior vice president of West Coast operations for Federated Logistics, a new position, and reports to Cole.
Berman will oversee logistics functions for Bon Marche and Macy’s West and also be responsible for integrating distribution facilities of the recently acquired Broadway Stores Inc. into Federated Logistics.
