Goodfellows’ Record Turnout: Some 170 executives of the foundations and textile industries turned out Thursday night for a holiday dinner dance thrown by the Goodfellowship Corset Club at the Fifth Avenue Hotel in New York. The evening spotlighted three honorees: Kathryn Smith, manager of Lycra spandex for intimate apparel at DuPont; Sheila Solomon, national sales manager for Priamo Designs, an upscale sleepwear firm, and Gustave Goodman, owner of IG Sales, a sales representative. Goodman is a veteran of more than 60 years in the foundations industry.
Each honoree received a plaque commending their overall contributions to the innerwear industry.
Several new members of the organization were introduced, including: Janet J. Peters, senior vice president of intimate apparel product design at VF Corp; David Bell, corporate raw material manager at Wacoal America; Bob Coletti, market manager of intimate apparel at Liberty Fabrics; Jennifer Knight of Georgia Narrow Fabrics; Glen Schneer, vice president at La Lame, a textile converter; Andrea Greer, an assistant merchandiser at True Form Foundations, a division of Maidenform Worldwide; Joan Werner, director of sales at Valerie Wilson Travel, and two executives from VF’s Vanity Fair private label division — Ramona Calsada, a designer, and Mona Kelly in product development.
Upon receiving her award, Smith of DuPont, noted, “Intimate apparel was the number-one growth segment for DuPont Lycra in 1995.”
Werner of Wilson travel agency, noted at the party that she has coordinated a five night-six day package to Shanghai, for vendors and buyers who plan to attend the first Dessous China Trade Fair for innerwear. The price per person is $2,615.
The April 24-26 show is a cooperative effort between Igedo International Modemasse, the Dusseldorf-based trade show organization, and the China Textile International Exchange Center.
At other festive events, The Underfashion Club hosted its annual holiday party at New York’s National Arts Club. Some 200 executives of the innerwear and textile industry attended.
