NEW YORK — What does fishing have to do with accessories? Usually, not much. But now 28-year-old Margaret Ahearn has launched a splashy new connection, a line of bags called “Go Fish.” The name is derived from Ahearn’s sign of the zodiac — Pisces — and, of course, the whimsical child’s card game.
Ahearn has found a niche in the accessories market with handbag handles. “Not much attention is paid to the handle,” she claims. Accordingly, they’ve become her main priority. Metals and real hardware, such as aluminum, are her favorite materials. “It’s just really clean!” she exclaims. Eventually she hopes to start working in plastics.
Fabrications for the bag portions consist of vinyls, wools, satins and leathers. Wholesale price points range from $75 to $150, with a target cost of $100. The line will be available at The Metropolitan Design Group effective this month.
