NEW YORK — Services for David Mercer, 45, president of Beau David Ltd., a women’s and children’s apparel manufacturer, will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Frank E. Campbell, 1076 Madison Ave. at 81st Street.
Mercer died Saturday of cancer in Mount Sinai Hospital here, according to the funeral home.
Mercer, along with his partner Beau Baker, chief executive officer, formed Beau David, a maker of moderate and better-price lines under the Expo and Beau David dress labels, 10 years ago. He was active as president of the firm until two months ago when he took ill.
Prior to Beau David, Mercer had worked for several women’s apparel manufacturers. His career started at retail in Philadelphia. He later moved to New York where he enrolled in an executive training program for Saks Fifth Avenue and he became buyer of designer sportswear.
Beau David, which has been operating under Chapter 11, is in the process of liquidating. As reported, its assets, including trademarks, have been sold to a new company, SBL Designs, in which Baker is a partner, allowing the lines to be continued without interruption.
Mercer is survived by his parents, Frank and Anna Jane Mercer, and a sister, J. Lynn Dealy.
