HOECHST NAMES GROVER SMITH A POLYESTER VP
NEW YORK — Grover Smith Jr. has been named vice president and general manager, polyester staple, North America, at Hoechst Celanese Corp.’s Textile Fibers Group. It is a new post.
Smith, who has been business director, polyester staple, will continue to report to Donald Lehman, president of the Textile Fibers Group.
Absorbing his former responsibilites in the new post, Smith, based in Spartanburg, S.C., will oversee all apparel, home fashions, floor coverings and nonwovens polyester staple business in the U.S., Mexico and Canada, with an emphasis on strategic planning and expansion in North America.
Specific focus will be in the areas of product development and rationalization and manufacturing cost reduction and reliability.
Smith, 46, joined Hoechst in 1974, and has held a variety of posts in finance and marketing, in both fibers and chemicals. He was named business director, polyester staple, last September.
