NEW YORK — The Donna Karan Cos. has hired the Joy Henderiks Co. here to work on the designer’s international business expansion.
Henderiks, who had been senior vice president at Yves Saint Laurent for eight years, opened her international business consulting firm in 1994. She has offices here and in Paris.
Henderiks will be working with Karan, president Stephen Ruzow and Patti Cohen, vice president of advertising and marketing.
“She’ll help us explore all the possibilities of international growth,” said Cohen. “That entails a lot of different things.”
“I think Donna Karan could be much bigger in Europe than it is now,” said Henderiks. “I’m going to look at opportunities for everything, from retailers to manufacturers to distributors. I definitely think Donna deserves her own stores in major cities. She has a very strong design concept, which I don’t think exists in Europe. Customers there are much more fashion-oriented; they’re not used to a designer with an overall concept.”
Donna Karan has been aggressively pursuing international business in the last year, including opening Collection and DKNY boutiques in London and Geneva.
