NEW YORK — Robert G. Lynn, a former president and chief executive officer of F.W. Woolworth Co., has been named vice chairman and chief operating officer of American Eagle Outfitters Inc., a specialty chain.
Lynn, a retail consultant since October 1993, held the Woolworth posts from 1989 to 1993. He has been a director of American Eagle since it went public last April.
In addition, Roger Markfield, executive vice president of merchandising, has been promoted to president and chief merchandising officer. Sam Forman, the company’s former president and chief operating officer, was named vice chairman. Jay Schottenstein, chairman, ceo and principal shareholder, said Forman will no longer be involved in day-to-day operations, though he added, “We look forward to his continued involvement with the company.” Forman, 67, sold one million restricted shares of common stock in the company to an investor in a private placement. He retains 142,950 restricted shares.
The 256-unit chain, based in Warrendale, Pa., sells men’s and women’s casual apparel and accessories, mostly in private label, and branded footwear.
