ACRYLIC PRICES UP AT MONSANTO
NEW YORK — Prices on man-made fibers continue to climb. In the latest hike, Monsanto is raising the price of its acrylic fibers by 5 cents a pound, with the exception of its water reversible crimp bicomponent fibers for the craft yarn markets. The increase is effective April 3.
The increase comes on the heels of a 7 to 9 percent price hike on all ecru (undyed) acrylic fibers, which took effect Jan. 1.
The latest price increase is due to rising and unrecovered raw materials costs, primarily propylene and ammonia.
