ELLEN TRACY IN LICENSING DEAL TO SELL BRIDGE LINE IN ASIA
NEW YORK — Ellen Tracy has licensed Itochu Fashion Systems Co., a division of Itochu Corp., Tokyo, to distribute its bridge sportswear line in Asia. The deal is expected to generate sales totaling $200 million in the first five years.
It’s Ellen Tracy’s first international agreement in 25 years, said Herbert Gallen, chairman of the 45-year-old bridge sportswear company here. At one point, the line was distributed in Japan. He said there are other deals in the works for markets such as Europe and South America.
Itochu has already developed a sublicense with Japanese retailer and apparel maker Renown for Ellen Tracy’s women’s apparel, to be launched with this fall’s collection. Renown will set concept shops in department and specialty stores throughout Asia.
Merchandising, design and advertising will be done at Ellen Tracy’s New York headquarters, Gallen said. Other licensees, such as accessories, will be developed by Itochu later, he said.
