NEW YORK — Nike Inc. confirmed Monday that it has reached a licensing agreement with Jantzen Inc. to produce a line of women’s and men’s competitive swimwear and related activewear under the Nike label.
Reports to that effect appeared in these columns Jan. 13.
The Beaverton, Ore.-based athletic apparel maker also said it has signed with Cutler Sports Apparel, a division of the H.H. Cutler Co., to design, manufacture and market Nike infant, toddler and children’s athletic wear for children ages 4 to 7. The line is expected to be in department and specialty stores by holiday. The swimwear is expected to bow at retail by August, primarily in sporting goods stores.
H.H. Cutler and Jantzen are divisions of VF Corp.
By hooking up with Jantzen, a dominant label in department stores, Nike is planning to go head-to-head with Speedo, the major player in the competitive swimwear arena, VF officials said. Company officials declined to discuss sales projections.
